Prosthodontics
What does prosthodontics do?
Prosthodontics is the branch of dentistry that deals with the restoration and maintenance of the patient’s masticatory function, aesthetics and health through the restoration of natural teeth and/or the replacement of teeth. Deterioration of oral health and loss of teeth results in aesthetic problems, impaired masticatory function, psychological discomfort and impaired quality of life. Dental prostheses are used to replace these absences by means of artificial teeth that restore masticatory function, phonetics and aesthetics. They also prevent inappropriate dental displacement.

They can be fixed or removable prostheses and the elaboration of the prosthesis must take into account both functional and aesthetic criteria. Once they have been fitted, the patient must be instructed in proper hygiene. Part of the success of this treatment is due to the laboratory technician or prosthetist, among whom we are fortunate to have outstanding professionals in the world of dental prostheses.
As the oral architect of the oral health team, the prosthodontist develops treatment plans in close collaboration with other dental specialists. Prosthodontics, dental aesthetics and occlusion go hand in hand; every treatment must end up being functional and comfortable, must faithfully reproduce the shape and aesthetics of natural teeth and must maintain a healthy and attractive appearance over the years. The emergence of new ceramic materials that mimic the natural tooth is contributing to the development of successful aesthetic and functional work.
