Dental Implants
What are dental implants?
Dental implants are the best solution for the permanent replacement of teeth. This technique is based on extensive scientific research that began more than 40 years ago, which has made it possible to achieve reliable results that provide a great aesthetic and functional improvement to the patient. It is a painless procedure.

Screw implant
An implant is a titanium screw that is accepted by the body as its own. The implant is inserted into the bone and the bone grows around it, creating a stable and lasting bond. After a few weeks, it is intimately welded and a ceramic prosthesis that simulates real teeth can then be placed on the implant.
Treatment with dental implants provides a notable improvement in the patient’s oral health, improving their quality of life and self-esteem. Dental implants look, feel and function as if they were natural teeth, and are considered a definitive treatment.
Another of the main advantages of this technique is the possibility of placing the provisional prosthesis on the implants on the same day of the surgery. This is what we call “immediate loading” or “one day teeth”. This technique can be carried out depending on the quantity and quality of the patient’s bone and the area to be restored.
FAQ's about dental implants
Due to the high demand for implantology, the list of dental implant manufacturers is extensive.
It is risky to say which brand of implants is the best, as the indication may be different for each case. One of the most important factors is the solidity of the manufacturer as a company. It is advisable to avoid new commercial companies that are introduced in the market and that we do not know what their evolution will be in the medium term, and may even disappear, or that do not have enough experience to know how their products will evolve in the long term. In our clinic we work with Nobel Biocare, a world leader in implantology with more than 65 years of history. They meet all the quality control, design and reliability criteria that we demand for our treatments.
The surgery is always performed under local anaesthesia, the same anaesthesia used to perform a filling or to extract a tooth, so that there is no pain during the treatment.
The most important thing is that the approach to the area is as atraumatic as possible using microsurgical techniques.
For patients who suffer from anxiety or nervousness, we offer the option of conscious sedation. With this technique you feel no pain and are calm throughout the surgery.
Postoperative pain is usually mild during the first 24-48 hours after surgery. Once the first two days have passed, the dental implants should not hurt.
The choice will always depend on each patient, their needs and the aspects to which they attach most importance. But one of the great advantages of placing a dental implant is that it allows us to avoid damaging the adjacent teeth. One of the classic alternatives to dental implants has been the creation of a “bridge”, a prosthesis that rests on the healthy adjacent teeth by having to grind them down. Bridges are more complex to manage and usually last less time. Implants offer security, we avoid the bone reduction that occurs after tooth loss and the use of the masticatory system improves, as it provides a more balanced balance of forces.
The minimum age for implants is 18, although it is best to wait until the age of 23, when facial development is usually complete.
Nowadays, short dental implants are an excellent option if the patient has little alveolar bone, both in height and width. In addition, there are bone regeneration techniques that allow us to achieve the necessary conditions to be able to place implants.
The “All-on-4” technique is a system that allows total fixed rehabilitation with implants of the upper and/or lower jaw in the totally edentulous patient or in those who will soon be edentulous. This procedure allows the patient to be provided with fixed teeth immediately, thus avoiding transition periods with removable provisional prostheses. Its name comes from the use of only 4 implants per jaw, although 5 or 6 may be necessary in certain cases of the upper jaw. At NS Clínica Dental, Dr. Ginebreda is a national and international expert in this technique.
